Delighted to have been part of the CITIES & MEMORIES - MUSIC FOR SLEEP project
and to have Luminescence selected for the album and the promotional video (see below).
As part of the Music for Sleep Project, I chose the sample recorded by Marcel Gnauk at Hermosa Beach for my inspiration as I love the sound of the ocean and my son had recently visited Costa Rica. Apart from adding a little reverb I kept the sample just as it was and then designed a sound that I felt evoked the effect of light shimmering on the water.
I improvised the whole track in one take - imagining lying on the beach as the sunset sets, the moon rising and the phosphorescence dancing on the ocean, feeling relaxed and safe, letting myself drift away into a glorious sleep.
Luminescence and Marcel Gnauk’s Ocean sample will be stored at the British Library as part of the Cities and Memory Archive
